MARCHING BEARS RESULTS – 2011

7/22 – Jay County – 17 of 19 – 40.0 (6 points higher than our finish last season)

7/23 – Muncie South – 16 of 20 – 40.4

7/29 – Wayne County – 12 of 15 – 48.4

7/30 – Winchester – 9 of 16 – 47.0

8/5 – State Fair – 22 of 45 – 51.95 – ESPIRIT DE CORPS CHAMPION!!!

MARCHING BAND STARTS 7/5/2011

June 26th, 2011
Rehearsal begins 7/5/2011 for the 2011 Marching Bears season. Rehearsal is 5-9pm. Students need the following items EVERY REHEARSAL!!!
SHOES – running (preferred as talked about in April) or tennis shoes. NO FLIP FLOPS!!!
SHIRTS – tank tops or t-shirts – NO BIKINI TOPS LADIES AND GENTLEMEN MUST WEAR SHIRTS
SHORTS – loose fitting – no tighties!!! Avoid blue jeans if long pants are needed – sweats preferred for better body movement
WATER JUG for splash breaks. May be filled at home or school. Water coolers only available for band camp.
DOT BOOK – small steno pad for writing down drill sets, visual movements and any other notes needed. Please have a pencil attached to it. Also, run string through it so that you can wear it AROUND your body during all rehearsal time.
MUSIC & INSTRUMENT – duh statement….but needed to be said
GREAT ATTITUDE – a great show needs a great attitude to be successful – BRING IT!!!
REHEARSALS BEGIN PROMPTLY AT 5 AND CONCLUDE AT 9. THE FIELD NEEDS TO BE SET UP BY 5PM AND WILL START BEING TORN DOWN AT 9PM. Students will have nights assigned to them so that the same people are not setting up every day or the same ones aren’t staying late every night. We understand that the assigned night may be inconvenient, so simply trade. We ask that everyone does their fair share. Jobs will be assigned by section, but any job, night and time is able to be interchanged.
The fee for marching band is $150. Ad sales begin July 5 and end July 13. 100% of ad sales will be applied to outstanding fees. The balance is due by the first day of band camp. Payments will ONLY be accepted in an envelope with student’s name and marching band on the outside of the envelope. Debbie Arrington will be available 4:30-5:15 and 8:30-9:15 on Monday and Tuesday evenings. She will be keeping track of payments. PLEASE DO NOT GIVE MONEY TO MR. BRIGGS!!!!!
Shirt orders will be due on Wednesday, July 6 – student and parent shirt orders. Payments for additional shirts will be due July 20 (night before first contest). Student’s shirt “payment” is included in fees. Students will also be receiving a pair of shorts (with pockets this year!!!!) with their shirt to be worn to and from contests and under uniforms.
If you have any other questions, please contact Mr. Briggs via email (staceylbriggs@monroecentral.org) or leave a message on his office phone (765-468-7545 x 3150). You may send text messages to communicate possible tardiness and reasons for that tardiness or to remind Mr. Briggs of a PRE-ARRANGED absences. Please do not text questions that can wait can be communicated via email or phone. Facebook is also UNACCEPTABLE for communicating individual messages to Mr. Briggs because he does not always check his Facebook. Mass messages will be posted on the website AND with a link on Facebook for people to check. If you do not have internet and/or Facebook, you (the student) are responsible for picking up the information in paper form available at each rehearsal.

BLUFFTON PARADE – 9/22/2010

UPDATED BLUFFTON SCHEDULE

3:20 Rehearsal
4:15 Load bus & leave for Bluffton
5:30 Arrive in Bluffton – use bathroom, change into uniform & get instruments out
6:00 Parade begins
After our performance, change back into your street clothes. Dinner on your own at the street fair. Have money for dinner & rides.
7:45 Load bus & leave for home
9:00 Approximate time to arrive at MC. Unload trailer on Thursday

DRESS CODE
You MUST wear shorts & black or dark blue t-shirt under your uniform. It is wise to wear that to the parade so you can simply put your uniform on. There is not a place to change outside of the school bus.

Bad Romance & Hey Baby (no trumpet solo – SING IT)

PURPOSE
This short performance will raise $525 for the boosters. One less fundraiser that you have to go knock on doors.

EXTRA CREDIT
Performers will receive extra credit for this performance. Please make plans to represent our school!!!

MARCHING BAND & BLUFFTON PARADE

September 12th, 2010

The marching band will rehearse Monday & Tuesday (9/20 & 9/21) for the Bluffton Parade (9/22). The parade pays the band $525 to perform. We need a great representation. Please plan on performing. The music is “Bad Romance” and “Hey Baby.” We will leave ASAP after school on Wednesday (9/22) for Bluffton. We will return home around 9ish. Please provide money for dinner & bring snacks. We will perform first & dinner will not be until around 8PM in Hartford City. See you then.

STATE FAIR BAND DAY RESULTS

August 9th, 2010

The Monroe Central Jr./Sr. High School Marching Bears placed 30th out of 49 bands on Friday at the Indiana State Fair Band Day Competition.  The band had a great season, and is already looking toward next summer when they will return to the track bigger, better, and stronger.  The director and staff couldn’t be prouder of the students accomplishments this summer!!

STATE FAIR BAND DAY INFORMATION

STATE FAIR BAND DAY – FRIDAY, AUGUST 6, 2010

7:00a       Load bus for attendance
7:15         Leave for breakfast
7:45         Breakfast in Daleville at McDonalds thanks to Crop Production Services
8:30         Leave for fairgrounds – eat en route – keep the bus neat
10:00       Arrive at fairgrounds – move as a group to use the restroom
11:00       LIGHT lunch provided by boosters
11:45       Fundamentals block with instruments
12:30p     Released to change into uniform
1:00         Lined up for final mental run through before transiting
1:15         Transit to starting line – NO TALKING – only think through show – finger music – do the drill in your head
1:44         Performance
1:54         Pictures – get water – this will take a bit
2:15         Head to buses to get out of uniform
4:30         Report to buses to transit to awards – we move as a group!
4:50         Approximate time for awards – Sari, Sara, & Ashley accept the awards – we are proud of ANY placement we get – you will be in a relaxed group, but stay tight. When they announce Monroe Central, Betsy Lamb will call the group to attention. Give them the biggest, loudest BEARS you have ever done, then she will parade rest you. No formal block, just attention where you are.

PLAN A – FINALS/EXHIBITION PERFORMANCEthis schedule can change due to performance time

After awards, return to the bus. Time to get dinner and get ready to do it all again.
5:30         Dinner
6:30         Fundamentals block with instruments
7:00         Dress
7:20         Line up for final run through then proceed to the line
11:00       Approximate time for final band to perform – then awards. We will block up and stand in block for awards!

PLAN B – NO FINALS/EXHIBITION PERFORMANCE

5:30         Dinner at the buses – after CLEANING up dinner, enjoy the fair.
8:00         Night show begins – 7:45 is approximate times for exhibition bands – keep an eye out for that time. You need to bring $10 for night show tickets. If we do not make it, buy them fast or you will sit on the 5 yard lines and not see or hear most of the shows.
11:00       Approximate time the final band performs. AFTER their performance, exit the stands and head to the buses for attendance. We will hear the results as we exit before the rest of the traffic.
1-2:00a    Return to Monroe Central with a VERY SUCCESSFUL marching season under our belts. Parents, excuse the phone calls, but students will call for rides from the by-pass.

THINGS TO BRING

Money for snacks, rides, etc. ($10 for night show tickets that we hope to not use!!!!)

DIRECTIONS TO STATE FAIR

Yes, we take a caravan of vehicles to assist us in our performance, but only a few are permitted inside the in-field. If you choose to drive separately, you must pay the parking cost AND the fair admission cost on top of what you have paid for tickets already. If you plan to ride the bus, please notify Mr. Briggs IMMEDIATELY (by Wednesday, 8/4/2010) so that we can plan accordingly. We currently have 2 buses going. These 2 buses are transporting the band also, but there is plenty of room for parents. If you have not had a LIMITED CRIMINAL HISTORY background check completed for the school, please send your full name (first, middle, last) and full birthday (mm/dd/yyyy) so that central office can run that and approve you for the trip. You cannot ride the bus if you do not have one on file.

1. Head north on N 1000 W toward IN-32 W/Co Rd 200 N go 0.1 mi
2. Turn left at IN-32 W/Co Rd 200 N. Continue to follow IN-32 W
3. Merge onto IN-3 S/IN-67 S/US-35 S/Muncie Bypass via the ramp to Indianapolis. Continue to follow IN-67 S
4. Turn left to merge onto I-69 S
5. Continue onto Binford Blvd
6. Continue onto E Fall Creek Pkwy N Dr
7. Turn right at E 38th St
